Banned Books

Banned books are books to which free access is not permitted. The practice of banning books is a form of censorship, and often has political, religious or moral motivations.
"Almost every country places some restrictions on what may be published, although the emphasis and the degree of control differ from country to country and at different periods."
Books are banned for a variety of reasons. Materials are often suppressed due to the perceived notion of obscenity.Governments have also sought to ban certain books it perceives to contain material that could threaten, embarrass, or criticize it.
Governments may also ban books to protect the public from their contents, including materials that may endanger public safety.
Listed below is a list of some famous books which were banned in a few places due to various reasons... These books on the other hand also remained Bestsellers in other states...!!

I'd just like to add that Mein Kampf was also prohibited here in Brazil for a very very long time - and my dad, who's crazy about History, wanted by all means to read this book (NOT because he supports the Nazis! He just really really likes reading about History...), and he had it imported from Portugal when he was a teenager... I tried reading it when I was around 13, but reading Portuguese from Portugal (instead of Brazilian Portuguese) was just so complicated at the time that I gave up...

Just keep reading. It enhances the mind and cultivates the heart. I read Mein Kampf way back in college because it was my class report. It is a strongly written one. I also read Dan Brown's. Try his new one, the Lost Symbol. It is well-written book on masonry. You'll also enjoy it. Great blog! I keep on visiting here.
